Natural Ingredients from Brazil

With the closing ceremonies wrapping up the Olympic Games in Brazil this past weekend, Brazil is at the front of everyone’s awareness around the world. The Brazilians did an admirable job at emphasizing the importance of sustainability and environmental protection at the opening ceremonies – with the world’s eyes trained on them, they pushed a cause that affects not only South America, but the world at large.

Another great way to celebrate Brazil and all of its natural features is to use natural ingredients from Brazil. This magnificent country is home to rainforests, mountains, and beaches; its ecosystems are almost unparalleled in terms of variance. Brazil is home to more than 40,000 different species of plants (more than any other country in the world). As a result, the natural ingredients from this part of the world are similarly rich and varied. Here are a few of our favorites!

Natural Ingredients from Brazil

Aloe vera oil – Aloe vera oil is aloe gel mixed with a carrier oil. Application of the oil to the skin can help heal sunburn, wounds, and infections. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties, so ingesting it can help with digestion and pain.

Brazil nut oil – The brazil nut has been touted as the most sustainable nut in the world, so its oil is a great option to have on hand as a cosmetic oil. It’s rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and it has amazing moisturizing properties that make it a favorite ingredient in anti-aging solutions, conditioners, and massage oils.

Clove oil – Clove oil boasts an impressive list of minerals (and therefore health benefits). It can be used as an antiseptic, in natural toothpastes and mouthwashes, for skin care, as aromatherapy for stress relief, and as a pain reliever (to name a few).

Jojoba oil – Jojoba oil is extracted from jojoba seeds. It’s naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, and it’s chemically very similar to the sebum the human body naturally produces to protect the skin and hair.

Lavender oil – Lavender oil, as we have discussed in previous posts, is an excellent calming agent. It can be used in its basic form as an aromatherapy, or it can be added to soaps and lotions to help encourage relaxation. It can also help with the treatment of acne.

Passion fruit oil – This oil is most commonly used as a safe, natural fragrance. The scent, aside from being pleasant and flowery, also eases anxiety and stress and improves sleep.

Shea butter – Shea butter is found in nearly all natural moisturizers and soaps, and it comes from Brazil. It’s rich in vitamins and collagen to help protect skin elasticity and moisture retention.
